I finished this back in September of 2010 but was never satisfied with it. I'll be finishing my next portrait soon, though, so I figured it was time this one was posted.
I ended up working on parts of this during a recovery from getting my wisdom teeth out and I probably shouldn't have.
I spent too much time on the hair and that takes the attention - not what I intended. I'm not pleased with the background either, which looked fantastic composition-wise in the reference but seems to just distractingly cut the drawing into slices. But I still like the image a lot. Louise had a strong air about her in photographs that was fun to try to recreate.
Mechanical pencil (#2 lead), 5B - 8B pencil, q-tips, Kleenex, and white vinyl eraser on 19” X 24” bristol paper. Also – I gave the background a quick thin layer of warm gray prismacolor.
